New Germany, Minn -
Team Tigertown opened the 2005 season with an 11-4 win over the Dutchmen of New Germany despite the absence of newly appointed skipper Shane Hofmann. Hofmann was unable to attend his opening depute due to youth basketball camp – he was fined $5.00. Luckily for the Team Tigertown, former manager, now player, Brett Kruschke stepped in to fill the vacancy. With the win Kruschke picks up his 100th win as skipper of the Tigers. His overall record stands at 100-91 (.524) over the last 14 seasons.
The Tigers opened up a 5-4 game in the ninth inning when they scored six runs to secure the opening day win.
Dan Weldon (pictured) and Dave Kreft provided the offense for the Tigers as Weldon went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Kreft was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a homer run.
Picking up the win for the Tigers was Jackson Thiesfeldt (1-0) who went two innings giving up a run. Dave Feldt (1) came in for the final two innings to pick up his first save of the season. John Schulz got the nod to start the game and had three innings of no hit ball.
New Germany falls to 2-2 on the season.
The Tigers, now 1-0, travel to Waconia Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
