TIGERS HOPING TO GO NOWHERE IN 'O4
Will Host State Tournament This August

--By Brett Kruschke

When last we left our heroes, the season had just ended in ugly fashion thanks to the upstart Winthrop Eagles, who were on their way to a surprising State Tournament berth. A 13-7 finish for the Tigers faded quickly to gray. But each spring begets fresh hope, not to mention a pair of new pants a good two inches bigger than the year before.

With all postseason roads leading to Tigertown, let's not forget the oh-by-the-way regular season. Carver will visit Tiger Park on Sunday, May 2nd, in the season opener. The 120th Year (or so) of Our Tiger just so happens to coincide with the 150th Year of Our Town, making one wonder what it must have been like to try and live without Tiger baseball for those 30 dark years.

Married for nearly half the existence of Our Town, Hilda and Orlando Kruschke, my grandparents, celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary yesterday. Only 28 more to go! (Sometimes the Town & Vicinity column is just not big enough for a given week, please pardon me.)

The first pitch against Carver is set for 2:00 pm; the first pulled hamstring for 2:05. Tiger Park is in the midst of major renovations and should be in state tournament shape by the Tigertown Classic in June. But don't wait that long-come out early and often and see the world's only 25-man amateur baseball roster.

Speaking of which, the Tigers will be without these fine student-athletes for the upcoming campaign: Daron Anderson, Tim Huber, Jeff Miller, and Jesse Pobuda.

Returning to the fold are: Jake Creighton, Dave Feldt, Adam Hoffman, Chad Hoffman, Shane Hofmann, Dan Huber, Brett Kruschke, Pat Moriarty, Mike Murphy, Mike Schultz, Pat Schultz, Trace Selly, Randy Stender, James Thomason, Dan Weldon, Jeff Witt, Ryan Witt, and Zip Zellmann.

The veterans' favorite players-the new crop of rookies-are as follows: Brad Connolly, Ryan Creighton, Nate Hartmann, Cody Hiles, Jonathan Schulz, Tim Schuster, and John Solheid.
